Before leaving to the Safari Desert Tour, we went for a last short walk around Jaisalmer and its street markets. Almost outside town we found a large lake, called Gadisar Lake, in which is still possible to visit many ancient ruins. Once the only source of water in Jaisalmer, it was constructed by its first ruler and its surrounded by temples and water banks, where boat renting is also a family routine.
In the Desert View Resort, the camp our driver - Deepak - booked for us, many camels were awaiting already our arrival. The complex is located in Khuri, about 40km from Jaisalmer, and sells a complete package of camel riding until the sunset, a tasty Indian dinner, a show with local musicians and dancers, a night in the desert (if wished or you can stay in a private room at the camp) and breakfast next day. It was the most unique experience I had so far! Sleeping in a king-size bed below the stars with nothing but nature sounds around me, and waking up to an amazing sunrise, is something I cannot fully describe. Together with the camel tour I can only recommend it.
Tip: try to get the same package from the Desert View Resort or the Registhan Guest House (same owner).
