WT013 - THE HIMALAYAS

Our Himalayan trekking tour started in Pahalgam, a hill station about 2,5 hours from Srinagar by car, and took us almost the whole day. Between going and coming back to Srinagar, plus the 4,5 hours hiking, one day is the minimum you can plan. We paid a guide 2500 INR (31 EUR), after tough negotiation, to show us the way through the mountains and water tracks, and bring us back safely.

Usually people do not trust themselves to go by foot and therefore several ponies are available for the trails. We preferred to avoid it, since I saw some ponies being abused, and also because we enjoy to walk and hike without a time pressure.

Many locals still maintain their lifestyle and homes both down and up the mountain, and will greet you every time you pass by. It is indeed an amazing scenic place. One that you will wish to come back to!

Tip: you can book hiking tours (if more than three days) directly with your houseboat, but preferably during the summer season.
