Lucerne is located in the middle of Switzerland and precisely between the cities of Bern and Zurich. Its location with mountains all around provide the city a physical atmosphere like no other. It is my favourite Swiss town and I would love to go back once. Certainly famed for the Chapel Bridge, an iconic winding wooden bridge with a stone tower that connects both sides of the River Reuss and serves as separation between river and Lucerne's Lake. The sight both to the mountains and to the city is nature wise fantastic and you can enjoy it from the promenade along the river. The houses also look quite simple and organised, which allows the landscape to better shine, and most landmarks are situated a few steps away from each other. The Lion Monument, a carved figure in a rock dedicated to the Tuileries war heroes, is only a couple of streets north from the St. Leodegar Courtyard-Church. Also in the north part is the city's historical defense wall with a series of towers - Allenwindenturm, Schirmerturm, Zeitturm, Wachtturm, Männliturm and Nölliturm - from where tourists, seasonally and after a climb of stairs, can enjoy a scenic panorama over the old town and lake.
