Dessau has a big role in the history of architecture and will always be connected to the history of the Bauhaus, art school that operated between 1919 and 1933 - http://www.bauhaus-movement.com/en). Even the streets have names related to the school and the movement itself. Besides this fact, I actually think that the city has little interest for "common" people, meaning not art or architecture related.
