DIANA'S TEMPLE

The little town of Évora is well-known for one particular monument - the Temple of Diana, a roman  temple ruin built for the deceased Emperor Augustus in the 1st century A.D. It stands in the middle of Évora's old town and right next to the Cathedral. Perfect for an afternoon, the capital of Alentejo's region, can be reached from Lisbon by car or train, not taking more than 2 hours. Being limited by its medieval walls, the city didn't grow that much and the access to the old town should not be done by car. Take a walk and appreciate the tiny alleys and the southern Portuguese architecture. In the main square called Praça do Giraldo, business is done as usual and many good restaurant are not far away. A visit to the Market 1º de Maio in order to buy fresh ingredients, cheese or wines is highly advised. Right in front of it, another landmark (don't be scared!) the Capela dos Ossos, or Bone Chapel, whose interior walls dated from the 16th century are covered with the bones and skulls of monks from back then.
