MEDIEVAL STORIES

For those who don't know anything about Bulgaria, you'd be impressed with Sofia and Plovdiv. Sofia is rich in history (mostly from the Soviet Union) and cultural monuments. You can find so much to do and explore in such a tiny city. I must say I prefer the old town vibe from Plovdiv instead of the post-modern artistic from Sofia, but both cities have a lot of potential and really deserve a visit. The centre of Sofia is well preserved and you still can see many medieval and roman ruins in a below level from where the city starts. Different churches, two cathedrals, one mosque and a synagogue can be found a few minutes walk from each other, fact that only shows how religion is respected there. Pretty much everything in the city is easily accessible. The Monument of the 1300 Years of Bulgaria is located south from the main touristic area, close to the National Palace of Culture, and is one of the things I enjoyed the most. The streets are clean, good for shopping and walk around, and sometimes you can find some lost art markets, like for example close to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and the Cathedral Saint Alexandar Nevski.
