WHERE PAST MEETS FUTURE PART 2

The day started with me visiting the Namsan Park and consequently the N Seoul Tower inside it. The way up is made through a pedestrian street which takes you to the iconic tower site. Opened in 1980 it offers visitors awesome panoramic views of Seoul's downtown and the mountains nearby, as well as a revolving restaurant. The site is also famous for its thousand romantic lockers that cover almost all metal surfaces there and, in certain circumstances, bring couples luck in their relationship. Coming down from the tower into the city, I went to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which is an extraordinary example of neofuturistic urban architecture by the world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid (sadly already deceased) that includes a design museum, exhibition spaces, retail stores, a walkable park and restored parts of the ancient Seoul Fortress. Before I found this landmark, I walked along the Stream Cheonggyecheon with a total of 22 bridges on its length, which then connects to the Han River. The Heunginjimun Gate in Dongdaemon, located on the other side of the it, opposite to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, was one of eight gates of the outer wall of Seoul's Fortress and is worth a short visit. A few meters further along the stream is the Dongdaemun Market Hall. Here you'll discover all kinds of food, many prepared in front of you, and you can have a taste of an authentic Bibimbap.

Tip: in the Namsan Park there's also a cable car available.
