IN THE SEARCH OF FUJI-SAN

Hakone is famous for many things - the Mount Hakone and other mountaintops nearby, the Hakone Shrine, its Onsens (hot springs) and Ryokans (typical Japanese inns), and for being one of the "gates" to Mount Fuji. Taking a day-trip from Tokyo, it takes about 1,5 hours to reach Hakone with a small stop in Odawara. From there, you can enjoy the touristic route, first the train to Gora, a winding way through nature and passing by the Mount Asama, and then the cable car to the Sounzan Station. The Hakone Ropeway comes next and allows you to have absolutely beautiful panorama views from it, including from Mount Fuji when the weather conditions make it possible. In Owakudani visitors can have a short break, observe Mount Fuji and eat black eggs boiled in the hot springs at this geothermic site. Continue with the Ropeway down until you arrive at the Lake Ashi Hakone. A boat trip crossing will wait for you there. The connection is quite brief, taking perhaps only 25min, and will leave you at the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise Port. In between you can relax and enjoy the surroundings. On the other side, walk always near the water to the Hakone Shrine and you'll see its renowned Peace Torii (the red gate) from far off. Other shrines as well as a great number of shops are also on the way.

Tip: while in Hakone enjoy a public bath (gender related) from a hot spring.
