OVERLOOKING THE DANUBE

Just one hour away by bus from its neighbouring Austrian city - Vienna - or by taking a direct flight, reaching Bratislava is getting quite simple. The city itself is humble and mainly the centre offers you something to look forward with many museums, churches, squares and the Old Town Hall. The primary transportation is the tram and stations are located in the outskirts of the old town, but you can easily walk around. Also the way to the castle is a bit of a climb but not extreme. Located in a hilltop on the west side of the city centre and overlooking the Danube River, the well-restored Bratislava Castle is probably the best the city can bid. Its panoramic views are not breathtaking but sometimes, in a good weather-day, it is possible to look as far as Hungary or Austria.

About 20min by car or 50min by train are the ruins of the medieval Devin's Castle. Situated between the Morava and Danube rivers, this is a place worth a short visit. I unfortunately didn't have time, but I expect to come back once.
