BETWEEN CANALS AND SMALL ALLEYS

During my travel to Venice, I did have a bad weather day. Not just bad, a stormy day which I do not wish to repeat. The Island of Venice located between so many other and with only a bridge-street, called Via della Libertà, to connect to it to mainland is by-far one of the most popular touristic goals ever. And because of hearing so much about it, I also decided to take my time there. Everyone says that Venice is a no-go during the hot summer months, firstly because of the mass of tourists, secondly because of its smell. This I must confess I never experienced but I can well imagine that probably the dark "almost-polluted" waters surrounding the island can stink. I then went during winter time and it was not bad, only a bit windy and not totally crowded. I started my tour as probably all tourists do - with a boat trip in direction to the famous Piazza San Marco and visiting its Basilica as well as the Doge's Palace. I believe it is impossible to know all alleys, bridges and canals in this city, and you can wander like rats for days without being able to see every cultural monument. With this fact in mind, I did forget the guides and landmarks and started walking in the directions I found interesting. I must say I cannot distinguish most monuments because after a while everything seemed more or less the same, except the feeling of being in a total alternative city.
